A tearoom in your own home

A nice cup of tea always goes down a treat

Aromatic tea leaves travel a long way to eventually end up submerged in hot water in the teacup. Black tea is usually steeped for a shorter time, while green tea is usually left in the water for a longer time. But why is it so important to pay attention to this? If tea is left to steep for too long, tannin acid will leach out, which is not beneficial and also reduces the pleasure. The processing, or fermentation, of the tea leaves determines whether black, green or white tea is steaming in our teacup.

Start your mornings with steaming black tea

Tea drinking has its own national traditions, rituals which the English keep to religiously. Indulge yourself in English tea drinking habits at breakfast time or at five o'clock, or simply sip a cup of delicious black tea in good company!

Enjoy the benefits of green tea

The benefits of green tea are indisputable. Many people choose it for its digestive and detoxification benefits, as well as its antioxidant content. However, the recommended daily intake for green tea should be adhered to. Its caffeine content makes it invigorating and raises blood pressure, but in a different way to black tea. The stimulating effect of black tea can be felt quickly and strongly, while the invigorating effect of green tea is less strong, but extended and steady.

How to make green tea

Importantly, when making traditional green tea, the tea is not made using boiling water, but rather with water cooled back to 70 C°. If you are making loose leaf tea, place the tea leaves into a teapot and pour warm water over them. When calculating the quantity of tea leaves to the amount of water, the generally recommended ratio is 1 teaspoon of green tea per 2 dl of water.

Steeping of green tea

Steeping of green tea

Cover the pot and steep for 1-3 minutes or for as long as recommended for the given type of tea. Be careful not to leave the leaves in the tea water, as it can make the tea bitter. Once the steeping time is up, strain the tea and enjoy the refreshing green tea taste!

Should you drink green tea in the morning or in the evening?

Should you drink green tea in the morning or in the evening?

Green tea is loved by many for its multiple good qualities. As regards consumption, there are different recommendations. It is important to bear in mind why you have chosen green tea. If you drink it simply because you like the taste and it's nice to have a cup, it doesn't really matter when you do it. It's worth noting that green tea also contains caffeine, so drinking it in the evening might affect your sleep. Green tea is also often chosen by people who want to lose weight, having a cup after each main meal.

Make a classic ginger tea with honey and lemon

Fruit teas should be soaked for a longer period, usually 8-10 minutes, in hot water. It's worth keeping to the time limit, as, if it soaks for longer than that, the tea may become too acidic. Ginger lemon tea is also available in tea bag form and can be flavoured with honey. It's also a classic for colds. Big ginger fans can also grate fresh ginger into the tea to taste. Honey and ginger should be mixed into the tea once it has cooled slightly.

What is the difference between green and black tea?

What is the difference between green and black tea?

The length of the fermentation process determines whether the processed tea leaves are eventually turned into green tea or black tea. In black tea, the fermentation process is completed, while in green tea, this oxidation process is stopped earlier, so that green tea retains its antioxidants, while black tea has a much higher caffeine content.

What is oolong tea?

What is oolong tea?

Oolong tea is a partially oxidised, i.e. semi-fermented tea. It is named after the shape and colour of the tea leaves after processing, so, contrary to misconceptions, it is not a plant variety. Oolong, or the original name ‘Wulong’, means black dragon.
